Melisa’s interest in nature began with helping her grandpa plant trees in her family’s home state of Michoacan. Graduating college with a Biology B.S., she spent summers at home leading volunteer programs with Friends of the Chicago River before moving to California. Since then, she has done internships with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy as a Restoration & Volunteer Management Intern, along with being a Watershed Stewards Program Member with Americorps placed at Grassroots Ecology, where she is now a Project Lead. Currently she enjoys facilitating a youth program at Arastradero Preserve and leading naturalist walks. In her personal time, she is an avid hiker, enjoys attending music festivals, and spending time with her cat Figgy.
